David Williams


David is a Partner in Murrell Associates’ commercial property team working with businesses and organisations at all stages of their investment lifecycle to grow, manage and rationalise their property assets.


David tailors advice to clients who operate in a variety of sectors and jurisdictions with particular experience of the property aspects of M&A transactions and insolvency processes.


A member of the Leisure Property Forum, David regularly advises operators and investors in this sector.  He has worked with St Austell Brewery’s estates and property team throughout his career and spent time on secondment to the world-famous Eden Project.


David joined Murrell Associates in July 2021 from UK Top 100 firm Foot Anstey LLP where he spent the majority of his career. He was praised in Legal 500’s 2021 edition as an advisor who “really understands the complexity of our business and also the uniqueness of our company. He has made it his responsibility to really understand us and our ethos.”



David's recent experience includes:
  • Leisure – Leading the legal teams who delivered St Austell Brewery’s largest single site acquisition to date and the Eden Project Skywire.  Property advice to the seller’s continuing shareholder on the administration sales of the Fowey Hotel and Padstow’s Metropole Hotel to the Harbour Hotels group.  Representing the private family buyers acquiring the St Enodoc Hotel, Rock.
  • Private Equity – Real estate due diligence and solutions to a series of private equity backed buy-and-build M&A projects notably in the automotive and business software sectors.
  • Corporate Occupier – Office relocations for independent underwriters Blenheim swiftly followed by US reinsurance broker TigerRisk, both to floors of 70 Mark Lane.  Leading a team advising international investment firm Hambro Perks on their relocation to 111 Buckingham Palace Road.
  • Finance – regularly working for a family backed business-to-business lender offering senior debt to owner and family managed businesses, plus joint and separate representation mandates from mainstream clearing banks.
  • Cross-Border M&A – Lead real estate associate on a FTSE100’s nine-figure acquisition of cross border energy supplier. Co-ordinating property due diligence across seven jurisdictions, advising on real estate aspects of the transaction and integrating with the client’s in-house teams and panelled advisors to deliver completion and post completion leaseback arrangements.
  • Restructuring & Insolvency – Lead real estate associate for the Administrators of a national fashion retailer disposing of 30+ site retail portfolio, head office and operational premises.
