Maritime legal expertise from Westcountry firm Murrell Associates has helped a South West marine company combine its fleet with that of a major Australian firm to operate across the world’s oceans.
Brixham and Falmouth-based Marine & Towage Services received expert advice from the corporate/commercial legal team at Murrell Associates, which helped Jon Parslow sell his shareholding in the company to Bhagwan Marine Pty Limited of Western Australia, whilst remaining in post as Marine and Towage’s Managing Director and becoming a shareholder of the global Bhagwan Marine group.
Following the transaction Marine & Towage’s fleet, which currently operates throughout Europe and as far afield as South America, Southern Africa and the Middle East, has combined with Bhagwan’s fleet of around 140 vessels specialising in serving the oil, gas and resources industries, to create a truly global marine services company.
“The Murrell Associates’ team – particularly Chris Wills and Hugh Murrell – have built up an in-depth knowledge of Marine & Towage over the years that they have been advising the company,” says Jon Parslow. “Knowing that the team was available to support me throughout this transaction, combined with that specialist expertise in this field, has proved to be invaluable.”
Chris Wills adds, “This transaction has proved, once again, that Murrell Associates has the resources and expertise to work comfortably alongside large City firms – in this case, Bhagwan’s solicitors, CMS Cameron McKenna.
We were able to combine our in-house expertise – particularly in the corporate, intellectual property and commercial property fields – with that of external experts, who advised on pension and taxation matters, to provide the high level of service that a project of this nature requires. We are looking forward to continuing to assist Jon and his team with the growth of the European arm of what is now a global enterprise.”
