During the week Shelly Deacon is an Accounts Manager at corporate and commercial solicitors, Murrell Associates, based in Truro. However, in her spare time, she has a passion for motorsport, and has been competing at speed events for the past few years in her Audi TT.
Last year she won the British Women Racing Drivers Club Hillclimb championship and this season has seen her move from the roadgoing TT into a motorbike engine powered single-seater racing car. Shelly will be stepping back into the TT this September to take part in the forthcoming closed road speed hillclimb event at Watergate Bay!
The Watergate Bay speed hillclimb took place for the first-time in September 2018 and was so popular it’s back again this year. Over 120 cars of various makes and models have registered to race along the picturesque course which runs from Watergate Bay along the coast road linking Padstow and Newquay. Access and viewing for spectators have been enhanced this year with improved viewing areas and an extended course.
As well as being great fun for spectators and drivers alike, it is also all in a good cause, raising money for Cornwall Air Ambulance and the Cornwall Food Foundation. In 2018 over £6,000 was raised for these great causes.
The event is jointly organised by Newquay Auto Club, Plymouth Motor Club and Truro and District Motor Club.
Shelly says, “The event is going to be even more exciting for spectators to watch this year. I can’t wait to take part and am looking forward to tackling the new course! I’m also very grateful to Murrell Associates for sponsoring me, you’ll be able to spot my car as it has the Murrell Associates logo on it.”
