Murrell Associates is proud to reveal its involvement with the launch of the Great Cornish Food Store co-located with the new Waitrose in Truro.
The creation of a specialist local food area enabled the development of the Waitrose store and wider site and was a requirement of the planning agreement. Waitrose chose to sub-let the area to Great Cornish Food Store Limited, run by Ruth Huxley of Cornwall Food and Drink Limited. Great Cornish Food Store Limited is the South-West’s newest independent grocery store and is committed to stocking products sourced solely from Cornwall, Devon and the Isles of Scilly. The Great Cornish Food Store has fresh butchery and fishmongery counters and also has a delicatessen and café where a team of creative and experienced chefs create new menus highlighting the ingredients available in the store.
Ruth Huxley of Great Cornish Food Store stated: “ To my knowledge we are the UK’s first independent grocery retailer to be a direct tenant of one of the major multiples. We are open seven days a week and operate very similar opening times to our neighbours Waitrose. Our extensive research over many years has indicated that people are looking for a concept like this that makes shopping for local produce as accessible and convenient as possible and our early trading figures suggest that people absolutely love it.”
Rebecca Dixon of Murrell Associates provided legal advice in relation to the property aspects of the deal. Rebecca Dixon stated: ‘I was delighted to be involved in such an innovative and exciting project. The Great Cornish Food Store marks a new approach to specialist food retailing and I hope that through projects like this locally produced food and products can gain exposure to larger markets. We all worked very hard to meet some challenging opening day deadlines and this is a great outcome for our client.”
